Brahms Requiem and GSO's 'Splendid Comeback'

Over 18 months since the pandemic stopped live performances, the GSO returned to G-Live Guildford on 20th November with a programme dedicated to Brahms - Symphony No.1, followed by the mightly German Requiem. This collaboration with Guildford Choral Society built upon the orchestra's successful Centenary concert in 2019, which featured Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

Two conductors shared the rostrum. GSO's Musical Director Darrell Davison started the concert by leading the orchestra through Brahms' 1st Symphony. Then after the interval, Jonathan Willcocks from Guildford Choral Society conducted the choir and orchestra for the German Requiem. The choir and orchestra were joined by two soloists: bass Michael Ronan and the soprano  Louise Fuller, a late replacement,

Shelagh Godwin's review summed up the evening by saying: 'in everyway, this was a memorable concert'.
